More than 250 Monadnockarea residents attended a clean energy fair at the Peterborough Community Center Saturday to learn how they can save money while switching to renewable energy.

Because of the level of community interest, organizers Monadnock Sustainability Hub and the Peterborough Renewable Energy Project (PREP) expect to repeat the event in Keene next year, and then alternate between the two locations each year.

The fair included 20 exhibitors, including businesses related to clean energy, nonprofits and community groups. Twenty electric vehicles were on display, including 13 different hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs provided by owners, as well as two pre-owned EVs for sale by Green Wave Electric Vehicles.

Claremont Police Department brought its Ford F-150 Lightning EV truck, driven by Police Chief Brent Wilmot. Two E-bikes, including a pedal-assisted three-wheeler and a cargo bike, were available for test rides.

There were workshops on cold climate heat pumps for heating and cooling and energy rebates and discounts for home energy upgrades, both of which drew 40 attendees. The event also included mini-talks introducing electric vehicles, cutting the purchase price for EVs, long road trips with an EV and charging an EV.
